The polyresin 4Â? Collegiate Crusher rock has a big buddy this year, with a new look. Dennis Radosevich of American Eagle Co., Inc., agent for the Collegiate Crusher says, Â?The rock has taken on new life for the 2004/05 football season. The buddy size rock is nearly two feet tall, and will be a blast at tailgate parties. We predict heftier sales this season (no pun intended).Â?
The Collegiate Crusher got its start in the fall of 2002, when inventor/businessman Ed Clancy instructed his contacts in China to make a prototype realistic-looking rock. Story has it, factory rep Chuang Shao Pei walked to the foot of a mountain and whacked off a chunk of rock. This would be the model for future Collegiate Crusher rocks. Smashed, spread-eagled football bodies were etched and hand painted on the bottom of the mass-produced poly resin rocks, and the rival college teamÂ?s logo hand painted on the front side. Twenty-two universities are represented on the rock. The Collegiate Crusher caused a buzz prior to the 2003 college football season, when disc jockeys joked about the rockÂ?s appeal, and television anchors wished theyÂ?d thought of it.
Flash forward to Summer, 2004. The China factory is churning out the larger version of the Collegiate Crusher. Says Radosevich, Â?The larger rock has the foot and hand of the splatted player poking up from beneath the rock. Fans are gonna love it!Â? Next up for the rock is a trivia bowl game, which is currently in product development. Radosevich is looking for partners to carry the game, exclusively.
